Welcome to the TalkSoup home page! TalkSoup is an IRC client for OS X and any platform supported by GNUstep. It is highly configurable and extensible with a fully-featured plugin system already in place. It has all the features one would expect from a graphical IRC client.

TalkSoup 1.0alpha released

The first preview of the upcoming TalkSoup 1.0 has been released. The GNUstep release is quite stable but the OS X interfaces still need some tweaking due to limited availability of testing.

I must stress that I do -=not=- own a Mac and have no realistic way of keeping TalkSoup working and tested without the help of some other developer. If you'd be interested in working on TalkSoup (especially on the OS X side of things), I would heartily recommend that you e-mail me at aeruder at

What is new since the last release of TalkSoup?
* Full OS X support
* Massively reorganized and cleaned up GNUstepOutput plugin
* Several new plugins and fixes to those that existed
* Much more configurable via the new preferences panel
* Enormous (extremely noticeable) increases in speed

and undoubtedly 100's of bug fixes and other problems that TalkSoup had when last released nearly two years ago.

If you find bugs or have additional feature requests, -please- submit them to the bugs database on

Have fun, and feedback is encouraged and listened to! Special thanks go out to Aaron Glenn, Matt Rice, Rob Burns, Frederico Munoz, Dale Anderson, and the countless others that have provided constant feedback, use of TalkSoup, and/or other sources of help. Without you TalkSoup could have never happened. Thank you to all. (0 comments)

TalkSoup subversion lives!

The subversion of TalkSoup is flying faster than any previous version of TalkSoup and I've been systematically destroying those bugs one by one! With the help of Aaron Glenn I've also committed the first of the .nib files to make the OS X version happening. You'll need the netclasses subversion to get it going too, so don't forget that. Subversion instructions are at I'm really looking forward to Sourceforge having subversion support. (0 comments)
